Supporting Students in a Meaningful Way

In 2015, Dr K.K. Wong and Mr K.F. Wong donated HK$1 million to Hong Kong Baptist University, assisting the establishment of the “Albert and Mabel Chan Exchange Scholarship”. The scholarship supports outstanding HKBU students, helping them to participate in exchange studies in the mainland or at overseas universities.

In the 2019-2020 academic year, the Scholarship funded a total of HK$592,000 to 12 students, allowing them to study abroad in various countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France and Canada. Among the 12 students, five completed their exchange programs in September 2019. The remainder joined their exchange programs in January 2020.

The exchange programs help students to broaden their horizons and enable them to give back to the society with their fruitful experience.

Celebrating Academic Excellence

At Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, 17 graduates maintained the school’s track record of excellent results at HKDSE and GCEAL in 2019-2020. In recognition of their outstanding performance, each of them was presented with the Dr. K K Wong Scholarship for Excellence to support their further studies at top universities including the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Kings College London, the University of Singapore, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Hong Kong. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their academic achievement.

Learning and Exchange in Belt & Road Regions

To complement the Belt and Road Initiative, the Charity established the “WKF Scholarship for Learning and Exchange” at Hong Kong Baptist University to provide financial support to outstanding students who undertake exchanges or participate in short-term experiential learning programs in Belt and Road regions.

 In the 2018/19 academic year, scholarships were awarded to sixteen students who had turned in excellent academic performances.

Caring for the Development of HKBU WKF School

In recognition of the academic achievements of the 2018-19 secondary school graduates, the “Dr. K K Wong Scholarship for Excellence in Further Studies” was presented to 21 students in recognition of their successful enrollment in undergraduate programs on Top 10 QS World University Rankings, Top 20 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Around 70 graduates from HKBUAS Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School have been admitted to world-class institutions including the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Peking University and Waseda University, as well as the University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Fostering Creativity Among the Young

The first collaboration between HKBU Academy of Visual Arts (HKBU AVA) and WKF Charity blossomed with the “An Infusion – Public Art Practice Exhibition” held in Yan Garden.

Over 21 talented young artists from HKBU AVA learned about the unique living space of the local community and studied the physical and cultural elements of the public space in Yan Garden. They also visited the traditional toy and drum factory and Dongguan Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum to find inspiration for their own art.

This was a first-ever art-related platform by WKF Foundation and Yan Garden to showcase the ideas. We are looking forward to seeing the Yan concept flourish.

Continues to support the service learning journey of students in Project M.A.I.L.

WKF Foundation and HKBU launched third Service-Learning trip in which students and alumni team up to take part in teaching and voluntary social services. Around 20 students of Hong Kong Baptist University set out from Yan Garden for a two-week service-learning in Qing Long Chi Jiang primary school and Huang Lung Ling Tan primary school in Jiangxi Province.

HKBU Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr Albert Chau expressed his sincere gratitude to WKF Charity and Education Foundation for its continuous support. He hopes that students will practice what they learned in their lessons, and importantly will think more deeply about social issues. In addition, in the process of planning, implementing and participating in these projects, students can build up their team spirit, shoulder more responsibilities and become global citizens armed with expertise and a willingness to serve.


Co-launches Project MAIL with HKBU to support basic education in rural China

WKF Foundation co-organized with HKBU the inaugural Project MAIL in which more than 20 local, mainland and international students, and alumni formed a volunteer group to teach at 2 primary schools between 20 May and 2 June. The 2 schools in Jiangxi were built under the Foundation’s “Building 100 Schools” project. Volunteers also visited lonely elders and children whose parents live elsewhere, and exchanged views with teachers and students of GanNan Normal University. The project’s objective is to broaden students’ vision, to support the basic education in rural China, and to allow students to learn from the experience of their alumni team members.

In the coming three years, Project MAIL will visit Jiangxi twice a year, in May and December, to continue to provide voluntary services.


PolyU Invitation Golf Tournament supports local higher education

Kum Shing again supported PolyU Invitation Golf Tournament as the Title Sponsor. Being the first fund-raising activity to celebrate PolyU’s 80th Anniversary, the Tournament held on January 5 at Mission Hills Golf Club, Dongguan was a great success. Officiating guests of the kick-off ceremony included Mr Chan Tze Ching, PolyU Council Chairman; Professor Timothy Tong, PolyU President; Dr Patrick Poon, Chairman of PolyU Foundation; Ir Dr K.K. Wong, Group Chairman and CEO of Kum Shing Group and Chairman of the tournament’s Organizing Committee; other Organizing Committee members and various community leaders. More than 200 community elites and PolyU alumni were attracted to the event, and raised over HK1.5 million for supporting PolyU’s endeavors in student development.


Hong Kong Teachers visited Foundation Schools in Jiangxi

Invited by Mr Ivan Wong, also the Vice-Chairman of Jiangxi Youth Federation, 6 teachers from HKBU WKF School visited Xiangtian Kum Shing Primary School built under the Foundation’s “Building 100 Schools” project. Apart from campus visit, the team also communicated with the teachers and students to learn more about education development in Jiangxi.


Role Model of Lifelong Learning - Dr. Wong Obtained DBA Degree

After completing the requirements prescribed in the study plan and passing the oral defense, Dr. KK Wong was awarded the Doctor of Business Administration degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and become the most senior graduate of the program. He was thankful for the supervisors, every staff as well as his family members, for their support and assistance.
 


Continuous Support for the Development of HKBU WKF School

The Foundation always cares for the development of HKBU WKF School and strives to provide students with a positive learning environment where their all-round development is strongly encouraged. Dr. KK Wong, who is also the School Manager, attended the school commencement ceremony and presented the cheque for Wong Kam Fai Financial Assistantship to Principal Dr. Benjamin Chan as well as the prize for the Teachers Commendation Scheme.
 


Family Day at Lai Yuen for WKF School Teachers and Students

The Foundation sponsored about 100 HKBU WKF School teachers, students and their families to have some fun and create unique memories in the event of Lai Yuen Super Summer 2016. Mr Ivan Wong and a number of Kum Shing staff also came with their family members. Lai Yuen is an iconic amusement park in Hong Kong in the 1970s, bringing a classic nostalgic sentiment and offering varied, exciting and fun activities.


5 Belt-and-Road Sponsorship Awardees to Study at Kazakhstan, Czech & Singapore

The first “WKF Scholarship for Learning and Exchange in One Belt One Road Regions” was recently awarded to 5 undergraduates. The students majoring in Social Sciences, Translation and Communication Studies will begin their new semester in Kazakhstan, Czech and Singapore. Mr Rex Wong met with 3 of them to learn about their expectations as exchange students, and shared with them the Foundation’s objectives and plans in educational causes. The students expressed their endeavor to broaden their horizons and to explore opportunities for personal development. 


Inner Mongolia Kindergarten Welcomes HKCA YMS Volunteers

Hayehutong Central Kindergarten, sponsored by the Foundation’s “Building 100 Schools” project, welcomed about 30 volunteers from the Young Members Society of Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCAYMS). The young engineers and engineering students were led by Mr Rex Wong, who is also the Chairman of HKCAYMS. In addition to the new facilities the Foundation has sponsored, a greenhouse was also built by YMS volunteers. The greenhouse facility enables the kindergarten to have fresh vegetables and fruits ready for children and staff even in winter.

During the visit, volunteers played with the children and shared with the teachers their kindergarten experiences in Hong Kong, facilitating the exchange of early childhood education principles.

WKF Scholarship Recognizes Outstanding Mainland Students

Mr Ivan Wong met with 3 awardees of “WKF Scholarship for Outstanding Mainland Students” earlier, and encouraged them to grasp the opportunity to expand their horizons and contribute to the society with their skills and abilities. 

The students expressed their gratitude for the Foundation’s support, which they mentioned to have brightened up their university life. They also promised to help others in need with a grateful heart. 

 


『王廖惠文大樓』啟用典禮

New Academic Annex Funded by Foundation Opened at HKBU WKF School

Supported by the Foundation, named after mother of Dr Wong Kwok Keung, Madam Wong Liu Wai Man Building of HKBU WKF School was opened on 15 January 2016. The Opening Ceremony was officiated by The Hon Rimsky Yuen Kwok Keung, Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR Government, Professor Ronald Chin Tai Hong, HKBU’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Frank Fu Hoo Kin, School Supervisor of the HKBU A-School and Ir Dr Wong Kwok Keung, Chairman of Kum Shing WKF Education and Charity Foundation.

Supported by the donation from the Foundation, this 6-storey multi-purpose annex ofis composed of Gymnasium, Fitness Center, Sky Tracks, Black Box Theater, Visual Arts Studio & Art Gallery, Outdoor Basketball Court and various classrooms.

Dr KK Wong took the opportunity of the School’s 10th Anniversary to express his sincere hope that the School will continue to stay passionate and maintain team solidarity in nurturing young talents for the betterment of the future society.
